    Place d'Aquitaine, for thirsty throats and weary bodies. Tables and bar on the lawn. Fruit juices, vegetable juices, brought to you by sprinkler-equipped gardeners-waiters!

    Le salon Berbère

    Place d'Aquitaine, take a rest in Orient... Lay down here and taste our mint tea, dates, raisins, almonds, and other fruits!

    Chez Marcel

    Boulevard de la République: bar "à la française", the place to have breakfast, coffee, croissants, bread and butter. Apéritifs and wines. Don't forget your "boules de pétanque" at home.

    A Casa Louca

    Boulevard de la République: the madhouse! The Bodega! It's tapas time till very late...

  7. Workshops for all
  8. The "Space Salon": hairshop workshop

    Boulevard de la République: hairdressing and makeup. This place is dedicated to body painting, to free expression and to performance. Open for everybody after 7:30 p.m.

      Makeup stand

      Boulevard de la République, beginning at 8 p.m., with eight themes: red workshop, blue workshop, yellow workshop, black & white workshop, animal workshop, vegetal workshop, humanoïd workshop and mechanical workshop.
      Each workshop was led by two persons.

      Performance: body paint

      Boulevard de la République: rainbow men.
      Open mainly for the Encontro participants. Express yourself in a fun and imaginative way on a special stuff: the body.

      Giant painting, daily creation

      Boulevard de la République: every day its subject with its colour and shape. Starts every morning, no brushes allowed, use your hands or your body.

    "Menthe & Grenadine", children activities

    Place d'Aquitaine: drinks, bubbles, makeup, various games, swings.
    Easy to find thanks to its special decoration, which makes it an ideal meeting place...

    Musical boxing ring

    Place d'Aquitaine every evening: instrumental fighting with Mr. Loyal as the referee!

    Dance

      Samba carioca steps, with Ursula. Public perfomance on July 29th, boulevard de la République. This workshop was aimed to present this famous dance step, and some other collective dances.

      Capoeira, two workshops with Beija-Flor. Public performance on July 26th at the cabaret, followed by a discussion about the origins and specificities of this dance. Born under the slavery, capoeira is representing a fight between two bound slaves.

    Music

      Batucada, bateria and samba enredo, with Nicia Ribas d'Avila and her students.
      Special performance on July 29th, boulevard de la République.
      The work will be focused on the enredo presented by the samba school winner of Carnival 1999. With its differents levels, it was open to everyone to take part with the artists.

    For younger people

      Initiation to batucada for 12-20 years old
      July 24th and 25th from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m., with Chouchoute and an assistant (Samba Résille)

      Initiation to batucada for 7-11 years old

    "Arbre à Palabre" on July 29th in the artist restauration point.

    Who will speak? Representatives of the associations Attac, Médias-cité, Florida, Musiques en Vallée du Lot, Samba Résille and members of participant samba schools. Moderator: Philippe Berthelot.

    "The Samba: from its origins to nowadays rythmical variations"

    Cabaret, place d'Aquitane, on Monday, July 26th at 7 p.m..

    Nicia Ribas d'Avila talked about the semantic field relative to the samba universe, about the evolution of Brazeilian rythms through their participation in the European cultural patrimony, and also about the pedagogical issues that are necessary in any trial to learn this complex music.
